Dr. Richard Gestring holds a Doctorate of Medicine. He is Board Certified as a Psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and did his residency training at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He has numerous interests in the field of mental health which come from his many life experiences, including his service as a Sergeant (ret.) in the US-Army where he was deployed in Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his residency, Dr. Gestring was on the fore of cutting-edge research regarding the abuse of so-called “Bath Salts,” and published numerous articles regarding their effects and treatment. He currently is treating all diagnoses of the body and mind.
From Dr. Gestring:
“Though mental health is a growing field and becoming less stigmatized, some persons still have trouble seeking help — if someone has a broken leg, they know to visit the emergency room, but all too often when someone is suffering from mental illness, they may hide it because they fear being “found out.” My role is to break down those barriers that prevent treatment, and to empower those who otherwise might not get the help they need. Together with a well-rounded treatment team here at Change, Inc., individuals under my care will grow, overcome and thrive.”
A Favorite Quote from Edgar Allan Poe:
“That which you mistake for madness is but an overacuteness of the senses.”
